The "Chuo Bijutsu" magazine played a central role in providing ample opportunities for artistic exchanges and created the second era of artistic journalism succeeding the "Nihon Bijutsu", which had created the first era with the main emphasis of Japanese style of painting in the Meiji period. With a large number of noted critics taking part in it, the magazine represents almost the entire "history of pre-modern arts on Japan".
