The document is the record of Christian missionaries and converts martyred in Japan from September 1632 to October 1633. It is written in Italian; its content is said to be the basis of the one written in Portuguese that is held by Archivum Romanum Societatis Iesu. 120 martyrs -- including 24 Jesuits, six Dominicans, two Augustinians, three Franciscans, four Augustinian Hermits, and the rest laity -- are included, with short biographies of how brutally they were tortured. The description of Christians being tied up and hung upside down, beheaded, or impaled on stakes conveys the situation of martyrdom when the persecution by the Tokugawa Shogunate reached its peak. The commentary contains the original transcription in Italian and texts translated into Japanese, and two similar reference articles in Portuguese. Also, it includes a chart shows the parts of each document for comparison. The publication of this facsimile edition commemorates the Beatification of "Petro Kibe and the 187 martyrs" in Nagasaki, Japan, on November 24th, 2008.
